Aerating wine and spirits is essential to releasing its true flavor and bouquet. While aerating, the wine and spirits are infused with oxygen molecules which helps the drink 'breathe' and frees a smoother taste. This smoother taste allows for individual aromas and flavors to become exposed. In contradiction to what you may have heard, aerating doesn't make your drink loose underlying flavors, but rather, accentuates them.
Wine aerators have developed and evolved immensely since their origin. You can use a decanter to aerate your wine, however, it takes up to 2 hours to do so.
